Presentation of the Quarterly Mediameter in Brussels

01. June 2018.

About the conference

On Friday, June 1st, a presentation of a three-year monitoring and analysis of the national press in Serbia (daily newspapers and weekly publications) was held at the Mission of Serbia to the European Union. Around thirty diplomats from the EU, specializing in the Western Balkans, attended the event. Following the introductory remarks by Ambassador Ana Hrustanović and the presentation by Velimir Ćurgus Kazimir and Dejan Vuk Stanković, an interesting discussion unfolded regarding the role and condition of the media in Serbia, with a particular focus on their relationship with the EU. The need for not only the continuation of this project by the Public Policy Institute and the Media Archive Ebart was emphasized but also for its expansion to include other electronic media.

Brussels

Brussels
Brussels is the capital and largest city of Belgium, serving as the unofficial capital of the European Union. It is the headquarters of two out of the three central institutions of the European Union: the European Commission and the Council of the European Union. Additionally, Brussels hosts the political headquarters of NATO. It is also the largest urban area in Belgium, comprising 19 municipalities, including the City of Brussels, which is the de jure capital of Belgium, alongside the seats of the French Community and Flemish Community. The Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual, and according to some data, French speakers predominate among the population.

The Capital Region is located in the central portion of the country and is part of both the French Community of Belgium and the Flemish Community, although it is separate from the Flemish Region (forming an enclave) and the Walloon Region. Brussels is the most densely populated and wealthiest region in Belgium in terms of GDP per capita. It covers 161 km2 (62 sq mi), which is relatively small compared to the other two regions, and has a population of 1.2 million. The Brussels metropolitan area includes over 2.1 million people, making it the largest in Belgium. It is part of a larger conurbation that includes Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven, and Walloon Brabant, where over five million people reside.
